Renault is stepping up its electric vehicle game with a host of upgrades to its popular Scenic E-Tech model, including a cutting-edge smart driver recognition system and a more accessible price tag. The updates, designed to simplify and enhance the EV ownership experience, position the Scenic E-Tech as a formidable contender in the competitive family EV market.
A Smarter, More Personal Ride
The standout addition to the Scenic E-Tech is its new smart driver recognition feature, which promises to transform how drivers interact with their vehicles. Using a combination of facial recognition technology and smartphone app integration, the car can automatically identify individual users and adjust settings to their preferences. Imagine sliding into the driver’s seat and having the vehicle instantly adjust the steering wheel height, seat position, climate control, and even infotainment presets—all without pressing a button.
This system isn’t just about convenience; it’s a security boost, too. By recognizing authorized drivers, the Scenic E-Tech adds a layer of theft prevention, ensuring the car won’t start for unrecognized users. Renault claims the technology is lightning-fast, with adjustments taking mere seconds, and can store profiles for up to five drivers.
Beyond Recognition: Upgrades That Matter
But Renault didn’t stop at smart tech. The Scenic E-Tech now boasts an improved battery management system, offering a slight bump in range—now estimated at up to 385 km (240 miles) on a single charge under WLTP conditions. Charging speeds have also been optimized, with the vehicle supporting up to 130 kW DC fast charging, allowing drivers to go from 15% to 80% in under 30 minutes.
Inside the cabin, a redesigned infotainment interface with voice command functionality aims to reduce distractions. The system integrates seamlessly with smartphones, offering real-time updates on charging station availability and route planning tailored to battery levels. Families will appreciate the expanded suite of driver assistance features, including enhanced lane-keeping assist and adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go functionality for congested traffic.
Lower Prices, Higher Ambitions
In a strategic move to attract more buyers, Renault has trimmed the Scenic E-Tech’s starting price by approximately 8%, bringing the entry-level model down to €39,990 (before incentives) in select European markets. This adjustment reflects Renault’s confidence in scaling production and leveraging lower battery costs.
“Our goal is to make electric mobility not just sustainable but irresistibly practical,” said a Renault spokesperson in a recent company statement. “With these updates, we’re addressing the real pain points of EV ownership—cost, convenience, and personalization.”
The Road Ahead
The refreshed Scenic E-Tech enters a crowded field of family-focused EVs, competing with the likes of the Volkswagen ID.4 and Nissan Ariya. However, Renault’s focus on customizable tech and affordability could give it an edge. Deliveries for the updated model are set to begin in early 2025, with reservations opening next month.
As automakers race to democratize electric vehicles, Renault’s latest moves signal a clear shift toward user-centric innovation. By blending intelligent features with smarter pricing, the Scenic E-Tech isn’t just keeping up with the EV revolution—it’s aiming to lead it.
