Rimac is preparing to launch a new robotaxi service in Croatia.
The new service, called Verne, is scheduled to launch in Zagreb in 2026, the electric supercar maker said.
Rimac is a highly sought-after brand and many established automakers are using the startup to help them build their electric supercars.
In addition to building the record-breaking Nevera supercar, Rimac also made a surprise acquisition of Bugatti from Volkswagen in 2021, creating a new company called Bugatti Rimac.
The electric supercar maker has been working on self-driving technology since 2017 and is now preparing to introduce robotaxis.
In 2021, the company received €200 million from the European Union, and also received funding from Hyundai and Kia as part of Croatia's €6.3 billion economic recovery plan.
Verne's Robotaxi, formerly known as Project 3 Mobility, is said to be all-electric and based on self-driving technology from Mobileye. Mobileye, an Intel company, provides advanced self-driving assistance technology to several automakers.
Verne uses the Mobileye Drive self-driving system and data crowdsourcing software Road Experience Management, which uses real-time data from vehicles equipped with Mobileye technology to create 3D global maps.
Level 4 autonomous vehicles lack traditional controls like a steering wheel and pedals, and also lack other familiar features like windshield wipers and mirrors to reduce drag and improve the aerodynamic experience.
Verne's first car was very different from most self-driving cars on the road today.
Instead of opting for a minivan or converted shuttle bus with prominent sensors, the Verne is small and generally has the appearance of a two-door sedan. The car's two sliding doors are sure to attract attention, as, according to Rimac, they are designed for easy access.
Robotaxis isn't just for the rich, as the company promises that transportation services will be affordable for everyone.
The 43-inch screen spans the entire width of the dashboard and includes multimedia, cabin and weather controls.
The company said passengers can listen to music or watch movies on the big screen. The car has 17 speakers with a Dolby Atmos sound system.
Robotaxis can be accessed through an app like Uber. Through the app, customers can adjust certain settings such as temperature, lighting and even scent before the car arrives.
All vehicles are connected to each other, allowing companies to optimize their fleet management tasks. Rimac plans to launch FERN services in European cities, reaching Zagreb and then the Middle East.
The company has signed agreements with 11 cities in the European Union, the United Kingdom and the Middle East, and is in discussions with more than 30 cities around the world.
