TikTok is testing a new search results page called “Search Highlights” that involves the use of generative AI.
A snippet of AI results appears at the top of some search results pages. Clicking on this section will open a new page containing the full answer.
In quick tests, users can find AI results on topics such as recipe queries or “best laptops of 2024.”
The page explaining the results states that the material was created using ChatGPT and that TikTok displays the content when the algorithm finds it relevant to your search.
The feature appears to be in its early stages as not all queries have AI answers.
There is a similar feature called Find Highlights, which is not an AI-generated feature.
This feature also appears at the top of search results, but it's not clear where this information comes from, for example. B. Whether they're summarizing the video or coming from somewhere else.
The video platform has added additional features for in-app search. Last fall, TikTok began testing adding Google search results to an in-app results page.
TikTok is also experimenting with adding links to Wikipedia, IMDb, and other websites directly on the app's search results page.
The platform tries to exploit certain habits among users, especially young people.
Many younger users view TikTok as a search engine and prefer to search for restaurant or product recommendations in the app rather than using platforms like Google search.
Like Google, TikTok now appears to be focusing on incorporating AI findings into creators' content.
In response to growing concerns about potential misuse, the platform introduced a new policy that mandates automatic classification of content generated by artificial intelligence.
TikTok plans to identify AI-generated content with digital watermarks called content identifiers.
