TP-Link TL-WR1502X Ultra-Portable WiFi 6 AX1500 Travel Router | Share Public Wi-Fi Easily | Hotel/RV/Travel Certified | Connect WiFi to Your Phone | Multi-mode Supported via USB-C Port |
I’ve only had it set up a few hours ago and will update if my experience changes from my first impressions, but so far I’m very happy with this purchase. We have a 200Mbps Spectrum plan and are in the process of upgrading a 10-year-old router. We’ve experienced slowdowns and bandwidth spikes since moving into our 2,500-square-foot home, and my oldest daughter recently discovered the art of playing Roblox while FaceTimed with her friends and streaming Roblox videos to the TV… by the way, my wife and I also like to stream Daniel Tiger’s Baby while sitting downstairs on the TV. Of course, I initially thought the problem was with the Spectrum and called the technicians several times to make sure they were okay. That’s the case.
I did a speed test before switching. My old router had a 35Mbps download speed. My old Linksys had lived a brave life and still did most of the work, but the fact that we had to work from home while my daughter attended virtual school forced us to upgrade. Setup is pretty easy, but there is one caveat: **If you have a Spectrum, you will need to contact support and activate the modem once it is connected to the router, then reboot the router** otherwise you may be able to log in, but you won’t be able to download web pages etc. My speeds are noticeably faster now. My download speed test showed 117Mbps after using the new router. So far there have been no signal drops, so hopefully…
You can download the tp-link app to manage your home network, including monitoring connected devices (we currently have 13!), activating Smart Link, and changing network names and passwords. You can even remotely reboot your router and turn off Wi-Fi access for individual devices! The signal strength throughout our house seems to be strong enough that we finally have a router that doesn’t overload a single frequency. By the way, you can toggle between manually selecting 2.4 or 5GHz for each device or letting the Smart Link feature automatically adjust the devices. Smartlink seems to be working well so far. We’ve had about 13 devices connected, which means we can have over 25 devices connected at the same time.
So far I’m very happy with this router, especially for the price. I know I could always spend more and get a more technologically advanced router, but this one seems to meet my family’s needs. My next step is to switch to gigabit internet via fiber.
