TP-Link Festa FR205 Multi-WAN Wired Router

TP-Link Festa FR205, Multi-WAN Wired Router, Up to 3 Gigabit WAN Ports & 1 USB WAN, Self-Organizing Network, Free Cloud, Load Balancing, OpenVPN/IPSec/PPTP/L2TP VPN, Not available with Omada

My WiFi hotspot hadn’t received a firmware update in several years, so I bought a TP-Link ER605 V2.6 Wired Router to move my hotspot’s routing, firewall, NAT, and more to a newer device and get regular updates. Setup is easy as default settings and features like UPNP are disabled unless specifically enabled.
I’m having trouble updating the firmware and can’t jump straight to the latest version. Instead, I had to download and apply two intermediate versions before upgrading to the latest version, which I was able to do without any issues. There’s a problem with the USB modem settings. If you change the country in the dropdown, it will reappear in 3-4 seconds unless you quickly scroll down and hit the save button right away. Another issue is that if you keep a static DHCP address and change the IP address, the device will still be able to update its current address and the assigned value will not be distributed statically unless you reboot the router or leave the device offline for the current lease period. Expired.
After a few weeks of use, the device worked exactly as expected, with no operational issues. With computers on my network, I could achieve download and upload speeds of around 980Mbps over my gigabit fiber connection. Usage is generally low, with the router’s CPU usage hovering around 25%.
I wish there were 2.5Gbps or faster ports since my router supports them, but at this price and performance level, it’s hard to argue with them. I’m very happy with my purchase.
