Microsoft uses artificial intelligence to improve the accuracy of weather forecasts

Microsoft has announced major improvements to its weather forecasting models, including forecasting cloud formation and precipitation, thanks to a new artificial intelligence model it is developing.

Just a few weeks ago, Microsoft announced that the company's weather team had developed an AI-powered forecasting model that can improve the accuracy of 30-day weather forecasts.

The company's new announcement includes further improvements to its cloud and precipitation forecasting models.

Microsoft published on its official blog that the launch team has rolled out improvements to the “real-time rainfall prediction” model globally at the end of 2021.

The company added that the model uses data from local radar stations and combines it with satellite data, which Microsoft said was necessary because many parts of the world do not have weather radars.

The launch team believes the rainfall prediction model still has some shortcomings due to the lack of comprehensive weather data from satellites, the company said.

Microsoft says the new model is four times larger than the old model and uses a combination of simulated satellite reflections and radar to predict weather, allowing the model to better fill in data gaps.

New improvements in weather forecasting models are expected to bring significant changes for users around the world, as these advances will help provide more accurate forecasts and better enable individuals and businesses to plan and make informed decisions based on accurate weather forecasts.
