Microsoft has confirmed that the long-awaited SMS feature is now available in the latest version of Outlook Lite.
In August 2022, the software giant debuted Outlook Lite, a smaller version of the Outlook app for emerging markets.
Microsoft developed Outlook Lite as a very small 5MB app for Android phones with limited specifications and released it in some regions of the world, but later released it worldwide.
In April 2023, it was announced that Microsoft was working on adding a way to send and receive SMS messages in Outlook Lite.
Microsoft mentioned in a blog posta blog post that the new feature is also available worldwide.
With Outlook Lite, you can now manage SMS messages and emails.
This new addition allows users to manage emails and SMS messages in one app to centralize communication channels.
Users must update the app update the app in the Google Play Store and click on the icon labeled “SMS” to access the permissions menu and enable the SMS functionality in the Outlook Lite app.

Microsoft has not yet finished adding SMS functionality to Outlook Lite. The company says it is working on some additional related features that could be added to the app at some point in the future.
Other features include SMS integration with Outlook Lite's email, calendar, and calling features.
Microsoft is also planning to implement cloud backup of SMS messages in Outlook Lite.
The blog post notes that the SMS feature may have advanced security features, but does not provide details about these features.
In December 2023, Microsoft announced that the Outlook Lite application had been downloaded more than 5 million times from the Google Play Store since its launch in August 2022.
