Elon Musk plans to build a supercomputer for Grok

American businessman Elon Musk announced that his artificial intelligence startup xAI plans to build a supercomputer for the next version of the Grok robot, which is expected to be ready for use in the fall of 2025.

According to technology newspaper The Information, the news was announced during Musk's speech to investors.

Musk said that XAI will likely work with Oracle to develop the supercomputer and that the chip associated with the computer should be Nvidia's new H100 type. The company will rely on a large number of these chips, which are expected to be “four times larger.” The size of the largest slides currently available.

The H100 chips are some of the most powerful AI chips used in data centers, but high demand may make them difficult to obtain.

Elon Musk founded xAI last year to compete with Microsoft, OpenAI, Google and other companies in the field of artificial intelligence.

Musk previously explained that the creation of the Grok Model 2 relied on about 20,000 NVIDIA H100 chips, while the Grok Model 3 and its future versions will require up to 100,000 chips.

Grok's bot works on the company's model and is integrated into the X (formerly Twitter) platform, which is also currently owned by Musk.

Musk co-founded OpenAI in 2015 but left in 2018, later expressing concern about the company's for-profit orientation under CEO Sam Altman. A lawsuit alleging bias was filed against the company in March. The nonprofit's original mission is to make AI research accessible to everyone.
