Launch of the new Ubuntu distribution, Ubuntu 24.04 LTS

After six months of development, Canonical has released Ubuntu 24.04 LTS, a new distribution for its Linux operating system.

LTS releases are long-term support releases of Ubuntu distributions that are intended to receive updates for 5 years, while Ubuntu Pro subscribers receive updates for up to 12 years.

Ubuntu 24.04 LTS, also known as “Noble Numbat,” arrives 20 years after the first Ubuntu distro was released in 2004 and comes with the latest version of the GNOME 46 desktop interface and some changes to the core interface.

The desktop and server versions of the new Ubuntu distribution use the new Linux 6.8 kernel, which includes support for modern hardware components.

The Flutter-based installer has several improvements, including the addition of an Accessibility Options page for people with disabilities, which makes automatic installation easier.

By default, Ubuntu 24.04 LTS is installed as a minimum version that includes basic features, and users can choose the standard installation that includes all features.

The new Ubuntu distribution makes Python 3.12, Ruby 3.2, PHP 8.3, and Go 1.22 available to software developers. It also supports .NET 8 and the Mesa graphics package has been updated to version 24.0.3, which is important for gamers.

Users can now download the new Ubuntu 24.04 LTS release on their devices or update previous versions.
