Scepter 30 Inch IPS 21:9 DisplayPort x2 up to 210Hz 1ms Ultra Wide/Thin Internal Speaker, Auto Black 2024 (E305B-FU200T)
My son and I bought his first online gaming PC (we chose an AMD Ryzen 5 3600 CPU and an Nvidia RTX 2060 Super GPU) and quickly discovered that he had an old 27-inch 1080p 60Hz PC. Complete waste of your new computer!
So, after saving a few hundred dollars to buy a pre-built machine instead of building our own with the same specs (due to the coronavirus PC component shortages and skyrocketing prices), I told my son what he could choose. Amazon: With a budget of $300 for any monitor, choose this one.
I immediately understood why he chose this model. At 30 inches, it's larger than most other gaming monitors with decent specs in this price range and is very wide, which makes me proud when gaming (like a chip off an old block). My 49-inch ultra-wide monitor. Of course, the real "wow factor" of this model is the 200Hz refresh rate, which is rare in itself, especially for an ultrawide device, but almost unheard of in this price range.
The only thing I'm not sure about is that I don't know the Scepter brand. In general, I don't buy monitors from lesser-known manufacturers because when it comes to monitors, you get what you pay for, and "cheap" usually becomes "more expensive" or just "frustrating" and "disappointing" in the long run. Being. “.”
But this is my son's computer and the monitor he chose, and I'm proud of all the research he did himself, so I want to support him. It's the scepter!
Well, I'm glad I didn't say anything because the screen is shaking! The colors look great right out of the box and I don't feel like any calibration is needed. This screen's contrast and blacks are above average, which exceeds my expectations for a sub-$300 model. Although there's no HDR and in my opinion only 250 nits of brightness, it does appear brighter, which is likely due to the higher native contrast.
But what interested me and my son most was the device's performance at 200Hz, so I fired up 3DMark and ran some tests, and... wow!
Movement is very smooth at all frame rates. In some tests we achieved over 600 fps. So we know we've hit the screen's 200fps max, and that feels great! There are no cracks, shadows or signs of distortion. The 49-inch Ultra only has a 144Hz refresh rate, and I could see a noticeable difference in frame rates when I ran the same tests on our PC, pushing the frame rates beyond the screen's limits. The 200Hz refresh rate on this screen is real!
Another great feature of this monitor is AMD Freesync support. It works perfectly with my son's RTX 2060 Super in both full-screen and windowed mode, although Nvidia's control panel states that the monitor "has not been verified for G-SYNC compatibility." I've actually had trouble getting this compatibility feature to work on other Freesync monitors in the past, so I was really relieved to find that it worked well on the Scepter.
Overall, it's a great gaming monitor that performs well across all of its premium and advertised features, and that's especially true when you consider its price. Highly recommended especially for me, my son couldn't be happier!
