EVDO-LINK AT&T 4G LTE MiFi 8000 Wireless WiFi Hotspot | Global 4G Cat18 LTE | Up to 1 Gbps | Portable Hotspot Bundle with SIM Card |
I was hesitant to purchase this device due to the many negative reviews, but I'm glad I took a chance. I will replace the Netgear Unite Pro with this device. Unite Pro restarts frequently (sometimes three or four times in half an hour) and sometimes fails to send a WiFi signal when it first turns on (requires a manual restart).
The Inseego I received came with “all” the accessories mentioned (2 batteries, charger, charging cable, SIM card, SIM eject tool, screen protector and travel case). To use this hotspot, you must purchase a data plan (or already have a data plan and a valid SIM card). I was able to purchase a new plan on the AT&T website with the included SIM card. I was able to use the device within 10 minutes of purchasing it.
Performance varies by location and time of day. In speed tests I averaged about 28MB less and 15MB more. The highest I've gotten so far is 62MB less and 24MB more (fairly early), and the lowest I've gotten is 12MB less and 8MB more. I usually have 3 or 4 signal bars. I have only been using the device for a week and have not had any problems so far.
For those wondering if this point of contact is open, I would say the one I received is open. I removed and inserted the Cricket SIM card (with active service) from the Netgear Unite Pro hotspot but it didn't work. However, when I removed the SIM card from a smartphone served via MVNO Tello on the T-Mobile network, it worked with the data. I think the reason the cricket emulation doesn't work is because its service is tied to your device's IMEI number (cricket runs on the AT&T network). I have to call them and tell them I have a new machine and they will upgrade it to an Inseego machine (and it will no longer work in Unite Pro). The reason I don't do this is because my Cricket plan (i.e. my plan) costs $35 per month for 20GB and AT&T's plan costs $25 per month for 20GB. The only problem is that I have to pay 12 months upfront to get this price.
I think this is a great overall purchase and would recommend it to anyone who only needs mobile internet (or backup internet) and not 5G service. I expect 4G LTE to be around for many years to come. I wouldn't recommend it as your primary home internet source unless you're a relatively light data user (less than 100GB per month). Other sources (cable, fiber, and residential wireless Internet plans) are less expensive due to the higher costs associated with high-volume data-only plans.
