EVDO Link Package for AT&T Mobile Hotspot ZTE Velocity 4G LTE Router MF923 | Download speeds up to 150Mbps | Wi-Fi connectivity for up to 10 devices. AT&T SIM card included (requires purchase of special data plan).
I've been using hotspots on a few trips recently and discovered this. Although they are limited to 4G/LTE, these speeds are sufficient for many use cases. My plan is not to partner with AT&T, but with T-Mobile. Since the device was unlocked and I looked at the specs online and that it also supports many of the bands used by T-Mobile, I decided to give it a try.
As expected, it comes in a box bearing the AT&T Velocity logo. The device itself also carries AT&T branding. However, I was quite surprised by how small it was. In the box you'll find the hotspot itself, an AT&T SIM card, a screen protector, two batteries, and a charging cable.
The device itself has a micro SD slot, a WPS button, and a power button on the top. At the bottom you will find the micro SIM slot and the power connector. Getting started and using it is easy. Simply take the battery out of the case, place it on the back of the hotspot and then close the back cover. Insert a micro SIM card (I had to use an adapter since I only had a micro SIM card) and away it went.
When you activate your hotspot, the AT&T logo appears. It boots up very quickly (much faster than other devices I've used in the past) and connects to my T-Mobile network quickly. Since it's a touchscreen, adjusting settings is easy. However, many advanced settings cannot be modified via the screen. Another reviewer mentioned that several features were missing, such as changing the WiFi SSID. Technically, he's right, it's not possible to use the touchscreen settings options. However, if you go to attwifimanager or 192.168.1.1 in your browser, you can connect and get all the advertised options for the device, including VPN passthrough.
As for speed, it's as expected for T-Mobile. My speed dropped by about 50Mbps to 100Mbps and overall increased by 20-30Mbps. You need this device often. Again, I love how small it is. Fits easily in your pocket. The included extra battery is also practical, as you can easily replace it if the battery is weak. You can also connect it virtually to stay connected. Of course, replacing the battery will cause the device to lose performance, but at least you have the option of not having to buy additional batteries.
At $115, it's not bad for what it is. For many people, it is actually a good option. In my opinion, there are other plans that aren't much better (like Glinit Modi - but only for T-Mobile) but would be better. When it comes to AT&T, you'll find everything you could need here.
