WhatsApp is testing the personal photo protection feature

WhatsApp is testing a new feature that prevents users from taking screenshots of their personal photos.

The new feature, which was discovered in the latest beta version of the app for Android, prevents other users from taking screenshots while viewing personal photos when the personal photo protection option is available. If you try to do this, you will see a warning at the bottom of the screen that the task cannot be completed due to “application limitations.”

WhatsApp removed the ability to save users' personal photos directly about five years ago, but this feature can be bypassed by taking a screenshot.

The new feature adds an additional layer of protection to users' personal photos in the app to prevent any use for fraud, identity theft, or harassment.

For years, Meta has given users Facebook profile photo protection to prevent other users from uploading, sharing, or taking screenshots of the photo, and to prevent non-friends from seeing the full photo.

WhatsApp also lets you control who can see your profile picture in the Privacy section of the app's settings.

On the other hand, the platform is also working on developing a new function to hide personal phone numbers by providing the “User Name” function, which will become the cornerstone of communication, but it will not replace the phone number in account registration and this function is still under development.
