Apple aims to produce a foldable iPhone after launching the Vision Pro

According to information, Apple is developing at least two prototypes of iPhones that can be folded horizontally, such as the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip.

The company had previously stopped developing foldable iPhones due to concerns about durability and permanent wrinkles, and instead focused on foldable iPads.

A new report from The Information suggests that Apple is developing a foldable iPhone again.

This goal has been updated following the successful launch of the Vision Pro mixed reality headset last week, which underwent a secret, long and difficult development process.

A foldable iPhone is unlikely to be launched anytime soon, as the device is not part of the company's production plans for 2024 or 2025, according to the report.

Apple wants to make a foldable iPhone with the screen positioned outside the device, though engineers have run into problems with the design because it can break easily.

Engineers also want to develop a foldable phone that is as thin as current iPhone models, although the size of the battery and screen components make this difficult.

Apple is so far in talks with at least one Asian manufacturer about sourcing spare parts for foldable iPhones in various sizes, The Information reports.

Development of the long-rumored foldable iPad is still ongoing.

Apple is said to want to develop a foldable tablet the same size as the iPad Mini with an 8-inch screen.

Apple engineers developing the product are said to be working on reducing the creases in the middle of the screen and also want to develop a hinge that will make the screen appear flat when opened.

It's not clear when Apple will launch a foldable iPad, though a recent report from The Elec suggests the company is preparing a 7- to 8-inch device for 2026 or 2027.
