Just a few months after launching the new Quest 3 headset, Meta has dropped the price of its older Quest 2 virtual reality headset.
The prices of the 128 GB version increased from $300 to $250, and the 256 GB version rose from $350 to $300.
It is worth noting that the glasses have been on sale at new prices since Black Friday, although Meta decided to keep these prices permanently.
The company also offers a range of Quest 2 accessories at discounted prices:
- Elite Quest 2 battery strap, $90.
- Elite Quest 2 bracelet, $50.
- Quest 2 Bag, $45.
- The Quest 2 Active Pack costs $60.
- The Quest 2 Fit package costs $40.
In July 2022, Meta increased the price of the Quest 2 headset by $100, bringing the price to around $400 from the previous $300.
When the company first announced the Quest 3 last June, it dropped the price of the Quest 2 headset to $300 to sell more parts for the device.
Meta, which offers more than 500 virtual reality games, got a big boost last year with the release of Roblox games for the Quest headset via the Meta Quest store.
The Quest 2's lower price may encourage people to buy a VR headset instead of spending $500 on the Quest 3.
“We know we can do more to reduce the cost of VR and bring more people into the community, which is why we're permanently lowering the price of Quest 2 and its accessories,” Meta wrote.
The price of the refurbished Quest 2 has dropped to $230 for the 128GB model and $270 for the 256GB model.
The Quest 2 became one of the most popular VR headsets due to its low launch price, although the hype died down when Meta increased the price in mid-2022.
With improved displays and lenses, compact designs, fast performance, mixed reality cameras, and more, the Quest 3 headset is a big step forward.
A descriptive roadmap leaked early last year revealed that the company plans to launch a new headset in 2024, after the Quest 3, at a price suitable for the mainstream market.
According to reports, these glasses could replace the Quest 2 glasses from the Meta series, and like the Quest 3 glasses, they contain the new Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 processor.
