Lucid launches Gravity electric SUV

The electric automaker is launching the Lucid Gravity, a 100% electric seven-passenger SUV with better theoretical autonomy than rivals like the Tesla model.

The Gravity is based on the same platform as the company's only other vehicle, the Air, and the new vehicle represents the California-based company's first foray into the lucrative and competitive SUV market.

According to Lucid, this electric SUV has a range of up to 700 kilometers, and can accelerate from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in less than 3.5 seconds.

The initial price will be less than $80,000 and production is expected to begin by the end of 2024.

Things look dramatically different than they did three years ago, when the company first raised the possibility of producing an electric SUV.

The luxury electric car market is currently witnessing intense competition, with offers from Audi, Mercedes, Cadillac and BMW.

Experts point out that the days of early adoption of electric cars are over, and there is a huge demand for affordable cars.

The company's first electric car, the Air, received positive reviews despite falling demand this year, forcing the automaker to cut prices while lowering its production forecasts.

The appeal could help the company regain its footing in the increasingly competitive electric vehicle segment, as the electric SUV has standout features such as a low-slung design and a sporty rear end.

This aerodynamic design helps extend battery life, and the Gravity features a powertrain combined with a 900-volt electric motor and electrical architecture that allows it to carry a payload of up to 860 kg and tow up to 2,700 kg.

With a 350 kW fast charger, charging takes about 15 minutes and the range is up to 320 km.

Lucid's focus on space and cargo space is unique in the Gravity segment: the second and third row seats fold flat to reveal a generous three cubic meters of storage space.

The interior is dominated by two main displays: the first is a 34-inch curved screen that floats above the redesigned steering wheel and serves as a dashboard and infotainment screen, while the second is located on the center console and can be folded to display more information. Free up storage space. .

Gravity includes the next generation Lucid operating system which can be updated over the air.

The car is equipped with a number of features designed to enhance well-being, such as Lucid Sanctuary (which Lucid describes as a series of experiences designed to provide peace of mind while driving) and Lucid Spaces (which transform the interior into an oasis of calm and serenity). Peace turns tranquility, allowing passengers who want to immerse themselves in the tranquil atmosphere of different places such as Lake Tahoe.
