LinkedIn uses artificial intelligence to help you find jobs

LinkedIn launched an AI-powered chatbot called Job Seeker Coach and offered other AI tools to premium members. This launch comes at a time when LinkedIn announced that it has reached more than one billion members on its platform.

For months, Microsoft's own platform has focused on AI tools like automated job postings, job descriptions, and profile writing suggestions.

The chatbot AI is designed to help users know if an app is worth considering. It is based on OpenAI's GPT-4 large language model and has begun rolling out to the platform for some advanced users. Microsoft has invested billions of dollars in OpenAI.

LinkedIn's engineering team has invested a lot of resources to reduce latency, and the platform itself has many built-in elements to overcome this issue and speed up the experience.

LinkedIn is trying to re-accelerate its revenue growth after eight consecutive quarters of slow expansion, and the platform announced two weeks ago that it would lay off 700 employees, most of them in its engineering department.

Chatbot users can trigger it through a job posting by selecting one of several questions to have the tool analyze the user's account and experience on LinkedIn.

The platform presents questions such as “Am I right for this job?” and “How can I be a better fit for this position?” While the chatbot offers questions like “Your account shows what you have in terms of marketing and event planning.” Experience relevant to this position.

Chatbots also highlight potential gaps in the user experience that could harm a user's ordering process.

Users can also ask who works at the company, which will prompt the chatbot to send specific accounts to the employee, and the user can then message them about the opportunity. The same information can also be generated using generative AI.

In the past, many applications of AI in recruitment or job applications have been criticized for bias against marginalized groups. Harvard Business Review study shows bias against black candidates when analyzing labor committee recommendations.

“We are investing significant resources to ensure bias remains within the limits consistent with our standards for responsible AI,” the platform said.
