Google has given its cloud storage service Google Drive (version 2.23.457.1) an overhaul of the document scanner's interface, bringing more features as well as a new home page and other interface changes.
Google Drive is a useful cloud storage solution for several important reasons: It provides users with full access across all operating systems, and the web app doesn't have the advantages of a mobile app.
The service automatically synchronizes every document the user creates using workspace tools, such as: for example, spreadsheets, presentations, and documents.
Google also lets you take photos and upload them as documents via the Google Drive app for Android.
Google regularly updates the interface of its apps to adapt to modern Material Design guidelines and to look like part of the app family.
Google Drive is getting an update and the latest improvements aim to make the web interface easier to navigate if you want to organize your projects into folders.
Google Drive for Android tablets now shows saved files and their sizes in a list instead of thumbnails.
Users can now use the document scanner interface via a floating camera action button that appears above the rectangular button labeled “New,” which retains the previous scanning functionality.
Instead of the standard camera app, you get a dedicated viewfinder with Google Drive and simplified controls.
Automatic capture mode takes a photo of you when the edges of the page are clear and fit into the frame. If you prefer scanning with the shutter button, you can also switch to the old manual recording mode.
After the first capture, you will see a new preview window with a bottom bar containing several options, namely crop, rotate, filter, recover, and delete.
The new changes free up more screen space for document previews, which is useful when adjusting the margins of automatically detected pages, but they also simplify the capture process.
Other changes in this version include a new home page flow with a Suggested Items tab at the top and a Favorites tab that replaces the old Workspace tab.
