Google is working on adding a new tool, “Gboard,” to the default keyboard for Android systems, which will allow users to scan text using optical character recognition technology (OCR for short).
The text analysis tool integrates with many other tools in Gboard and first asks for permission to access the camera and then takes a photo of the text you want to recognize.
After you take a photo, the text in it appears as a shadow. When you click on any highlighted text, a paste option will appear to paste the text where you want and you can repeat the command.
Gboard's text analysis tool is similar to Google Lens, but simpler, faster, and more convenient for writing and editing word assignments using the keyboard.
The text analysis tool works in the keyboard area instead of the entire screen, and the text recognition technology works efficiently, similar to other Google products.
The new feature saves users a lot of time by quickly converting real text or images into editable digital versions without the need for manual input.
In addition to the text generation features, Google is also adding new features to the panel, such as AI-based language correction.
The new feature that Google is testing is already available in a beta version of Gboard and will be available to all users in the next update.
