The latest news says that Apple is developing new features based on generative artificial intelligence, some of which will be exclusive to the upcoming iPhone 16 phones.
The company is expected to launch a new version of its personal assistant, “Siri,” which relies on large language models with artificial intelligence, and will be released in the upcoming iOS 18 and iPasOS 18 systems.
Previous reports indicate that Apple is still considering whether it will limit its AI-based generative process to on-device or cloud processing, or whether it will take a hybrid approach that combines both.
According to the latest information available, the upcoming iOS 18 will bring new cloud-based (or Apple server-based) AI features to millions of devices eligible to upgrade to iOS 18, while other AI features managed by the devices themselves could remain exclusive. Available for iPhone 16 phones.
According to sources, new features include improved interactions between Siri and the Messages app, as well as more efficient answering of complex questions and automatic sentence completion.
It should also add auto-generated playlists to music apps, integrate with productivity apps like Pages and Keynote for AI-powered writing and presentation creation, and more.
The report also notes that Apple is on track to spend $1 billion annually on AI research, with some of the company's most prominent executives overseeing development, including Craig Federighi, vice president of software engineering, and John Gianandrea, vice president of machine learning.
