Sony has officially launched a new model of its PlayStation 5 gaming platform with a removable storage unit and an internal storage capacity of 1 TB.
This model is often referred to as the PlayStation 5 Slim and although it replaces the standard and digital versions of the PlayStation 5, it is thinner and shorter than the current model.
The overall size of the new PlayStation 5 model has been significantly reduced by more than 30%, and the weight has been reduced by 24%.
There is a notch on the side with the removable drive, but it can be removed and replaced with a side plate. “There are four different covers, with the top remaining glossy and the bottom matte,” Sony explained.
If you buy the digital model of the PlayStation 5, you can add a Blu-ray drive later, as Sony sells it separately for $80.
Instead of the single USB-C and USB-A ports available on current gaming console models, there are now two pins on each side and a dual USB-C port on the front.
The company is offering a horizontal stand for the new PS5 models, and Sony is selling a new vertical stand for all PlayStation 5 models separately for $30.
Both new PlayStation 5 models feature 1TB of internal storage instead of the current PlayStation 5 model's 825GB.
The company has been developing new platform models to meet the changing needs of gamers, and Sony engineers have now developed a new form factor that provides more options and flexibility.
Sony emphasizes that the new model has the same technical advantages that made the PS5 the best gaming console: the new regular model with the driver will cost $ 500, while the digital model will cost $ 450.
The new model will be available in November. Once current stock of the PlayStation 5 is exhausted, this new model will be the only model available for the platform.
It is worth noting that the official announcement of the new PlayStation 5 model comes months after the release of the device, and follows reports last year that Sony would develop the PlayStation 5 platform with a removable disk drive.
