Samsung offers satellite connectivity with the Galaxy S24

It seems that Samsung is ready to launch its next generation of smartphones to compete with Huawei and Apple in the field of satellite communications technologies for smartphones.

Park Young-in, head of LSI at Samsung, confirmed that Galaxy phones will support satellite services starting next year, in a clear reference to the Galaxy S24 series, which is expected to be released in early 2024.

Speaking at the Samsung Semiconductor Expo 2023, Young-in added that the company has the necessary technological preparations to enable satellite communications.

This could indicate that the Exynos 5300 modem chip supports two-way communication via satellite, as the modem chip allows users in very remote areas or disaster areas to communicate with the world via non-terrestrial fifth generation networks.

Non-terrestrial 5G networks allow smartphones to send messages to satellites, which send the messages back to ground stations, which in turn transmit the messages to traditional cellular networks for other users to receive.

The problem is not limited to text messages, as in the future users will also be able to send high-resolution photos and videos via satellite.

Since Samsung does not currently offer any specific models with satellite technology, the Galaxy S24 series could be the right choice to bring this advanced future technology to Samsung devices.

Young In also explained Samsung's plans to improve the graphical performance of smartphones by improving ray tracing, a feature that creates light reflections to add realism to games. The company showed this feature for the first time on the Galaxy S22 phone, which contains an Exynos 2200 processor.

He talked about generative AI, suggesting that Samsung hopes to offer generative AI with the Exynos 2400.

Last year, Huawei and Apple launched smartphones with emergency text messaging capabilities via satellite.

This technology is essential and saves time when the network is not available as this feature allows you to send text messages over the cellular network.

The first generation of this technology allowed you to send messages without receiving responses. Huawei then introduced the two-way satellite emergency SMS feature, allowing users to send and receive text messages via satellite.

Huawei also launched the Huawei Mate 60 Pro mobile phone with satellite communication function, which can communicate via satellite, which is the first of its kind in the field of smartphones globally.
