I have a Spectrum Advanced WiFi router that can run 2G and 5G on the same WiFi network. There is no way to split the network into two parts. It would be great if they offered more advanced routers with more features like VPN, SSID network hiding, 2G and 5G network segmentation, guest network, etc. I pay an extra $5 per month on top of the $5 I already pay for it. This allows customers to choose the router they need for their home while receiving customer support.
As a new Echo Dot customer
That's why I bought the router. I purchased four Echo Dot 5th Generation Version 22 devices. They both connect to my Spectrum Wi-Fi router with no problem and work great on their own. However, Echo Dot devices have a “multi-room audio” feature that lets you listen to music throughout the house. That's why you should get these things in the first place. This feature is random. Sometimes it works, but most of the time only one or two work, and trying to re-pair them all so I can say, “Alexa, play Discover Weekly from Spotify Everywhere” is a lot of hassle and takes a lot of time.
After going online and checking forums like Quora and Reddit, I discovered the issue. The Spectrum WiFi router switches between 2G and 5G throughout the day depending on interference and signal strength. If one Echo Dot is on a different network than the others, it will interrupt audio playback in multiple rooms and won't work. It does not work. So I started looking for a dual band router.
TP-Link AX1800 WiFi 6 Router (Archer AX21) Review
The TP-Link AX1800 router has worked very well so far. It arrived the same day I ordered it (thanks to Amazon and of course especially to the delivery person). When it arrived, the first thing I noticed was that it was very dark, which made me nervous about purchasing it. The router itself is well packed and shows no damage.
I followed the instructions exactly, but after plugging in the router and after the internet modem came back online, the router no longer lit up. I re-read the steps, re-checked the electrical connections, and tried to disconnect the two ends, to no avail. Honestly, I thought I was screwed. I looked at the back of the router, saw a button and pressed it. All the lights started coming on and I was able to start the setup process.
I use an iPhone and when I opened the TP-Link app to configure the router, I found that the star rating was lower, so I decided not to download the app and log in with my IP address (no instructions). I was able to disable TP-Link Smart Connect so I could have two separate SSIDs for 2G and 5G. I also ran a speed test and the results were faster than usual, and my computer moved noticeably faster when browsing the web and streaming videos, although the speeds were about the same (previously ~310Mbps download/9Mbps/upload ; now ~ 310). I also like that the TP-Link router has antennas, in particular, four of which can be seen. Routers don't have this spectrum, and even if they did, it's in the router itself. I think routers with clearly visible antennas work better and send a stronger signal.
Will this solve my Echo Dot problem?
Of course I have. I reconnected all four Echo Dots to the 2G network, which was also a pain (but worth the time and effort; it would have been much easier if I had connected them to a dual-band router to begin with) and I did that as well and since then I've had no problems getting it to work. Audio in multiple rooms. Whenever I wanted to listen to music on all four Echo Dot devices at the same time, everything went smoothly. This is great because I plan to purchase more for a more peripheral system environment.

If you need a dual-band WiFi router that can split your network into two parts so you can connect separately, this is the one for you. Honestly, if you own a Spectrum router, this is a huge upgrade at a fraction of the cost. Just keep it clean and dust-free and place it in a cool, well-ventilated place in the house and it will easily last for more than two years. This saves money and works better. Honestly, it's a no brainer.
There is also a common misconception about intermittent/slow internet speeds. Most signal problems are not due to the cable line (although signal levels to and from the internet modem seem fine), but rather to the device itself (modem and/or router) or the device you are using (assuming that only happens with one or two on ). on any device). For this reason, upgrading your wireless router and/or Internet modem may resolve the issue.
Honestly, I have no problem with my Spectrum internet modem. I think they are good. They're all pre-designed, so you can't change any of their settings. For me this is not a deal breaker. But to be honest, if I didn't have landline service, I would have bought my own modem and changed my mind in the long run. Spectrum Internet devices are suitable for most households.
