First of all, this is my first Ultrawide or HDR monitor, but I've seen many others. I replaced a 15 year old Dell and Samsung 24" monitor that I will probably keep for a long time. It's the size of two 27-inch 16:9 displays soldered together, so you can easily use three application windows side by side. .
This monitor is great for gaming, almost as immersive as my Oculus but without the weight and heat. I played Halo Infinite Multiplayer on High/Ultra (RTX 3070) and lowered the resolution to 55% to get 120fps at full 5K, but for games like Cyberpunk 2077, you have to lower the resolution to choose between ray tracing and ray tracing. Most of the time, ray tracing will only bring minor visual improvements to current-gen games, so I don't think it's a big issue at the moment, but I know it's an issue on a screen this size and might need more. Large GPU. HDR in gaming provides a great contrast range that makes a huge difference in immersion.
The wide sides give you a better view of the playing surface and allow you to monitor your wings better. This alone improves my performance in shooting games. There's also a really cool gaming feature: a built-in aiming reticule that can be turned on or off. This is great for shooters or hardcore games when the game's crosshairs are hidden... :)
To watch HDR movies, you need a viewer that can handle 10-bit output. I recommend using VLC Media Player and setting the contrast to around 60% (Ctrl+E, Video Effects tab, Save Settings). This creates beautiful, vibrant images with bright, detailed highlights. I usually zoom in so that the window touches the top and bottom of the screen. This creates a nice large frame without losing any part of the image.
The only negatives I have found with this monitor after 5 months are: the blacks are not as black as OLED displays, the dynamic backlight range is too large to use and I disabled this feature because it is distracting to viewers. Open and close. There is now a mini-LED version of the display that can solve this problem, but it is also more than twice as expensive. The standard version still offers plenty of contrast and 1,000 nits of brightness and definitely has an HDR feel.
Another downside is that a dead pixel appears near the center after about a month. The pixels on this screen are so small that I can never see them unless I have a white background, and even then I have to look for them. As long as none of the other pixels disappear, everything is fine.
