HP 2023 Latest TPN-C160_537Z6AV Envy 17T Premium Laptop, 17.3" HD Touchscreen, Intel Core i7-13700H, 64GB RAM, 2TB SSD, Webcam, HDMI, Wi-Fi 6, Backlit Keyboard, Windows 11 Home, grey
I purchased an HP Envy 17T to replace an old laptop during Amazon Prime Day in October. I wanted a super fast processor with a large screen and a backlit keyboard.
This device has exceeded my expectations. Not only did I get the 13th gen Core i7, but the machine also came with a Core i7-13700H. The processor has 6 performance cores, 8 efficiency cores, and 20 threads. My processor is very powerful.
The device has 64GB of RAM and 2TB of NVMe storage. He runs at lightning speed. I think Fedora loaded in less than 3 seconds and the machine was ready to connect. Surprisingly, the 64GB storage and 2TB RAM variant is the cheapest option. 16GB or 32GB RAM configurations will cost you more.
This processor features the Expected Instruction Set (ISA), including SSE2, SSE3, SSSSE3, SSE4.1, SSE4.2, AVX, AVX2, BMI, BMI2, AES, PCLMULQDQ, RDRAND, RDSEED, and SHA-NI. It's great to see SHA-NI now in desktop processors.
The device runs Fedora 38 with KDE. There is nothing from Raymond to contaminate this machine. The operating system is installed perfectly. Unfortunately, I have to disable Secure Boot because I'm using Virtual Box.
The only downside to this device in my opinion is the charging cable. The charging cable is USB-C instead of the typical cylindrical connector. The USB-C cable doesn't have a 90-degree end, so it sticks to the mouse area and mouse pad. I recommend choosing an extension cord with a small 90 degree tip, such as <https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0922WJQ9M>.
