Microsoft says the new version of Teams is twice as fast and uses 50% less memory than the previous version, which was a resource hog on older laptops and desktops.
The company says that the process of installing the new application is three times faster than the old process, and starting or joining a meeting has become twice faster than before, and the application now uses 70% of the storage space in less time.
All of these performance improvements are due to Microsoft abandoning the open source Electron project framework and switching to Edge WebView2 technology.
Microsoft also turned to the React JavaScript library and focused on improving the design of Teams using the Fluent design language system to make several improvements to the user interface.
The new Teams app has been in preview for a few months, though in that time it has lost some features that Microsoft has now added to the final release.
