Microsoft is ending support for two versions of Windows

Support for Microsoft's Windows Server 2012 and the 2021 version of the operating system (Windows 11) ended yesterday with the October patch rolling out on Tuesday.

Starting this week, Microsoft will no longer provide technical support or bug fixes for newly discovered issues that affect the stability or availability of devices running either operating system.

The American technology company said in its statement: “After this date, these products will no longer receive security updates, non-security updates, bug fixes, technical support, or technical content updates over the Internet.”

Microsoft has previously issued several announcements since the beginning of the year to remind customers that support for these two systems will end on October 10, 2023.

Although mainstream support for Windows Server 2012 ended more than four years ago, in October 2018 Microsoft extended the extended support end date by five years to give customers more time to move to the latest supported versions. . The operating system used for the server.

Microsoft recommends that administrators who want servers running Windows Server 2012 to continue receiving core bug fixes and security updates for Windows Server 2022 or receive extended security updates.

These extended security updates provide an extension of security updates for up to three years and can be renewed annually until October 13, 2026. Visit our FAQ page for more details about the extended security updates.

Last September, Microsoft reminded customers that devices running the 2021 version of the operating system (Windows 11) would have to update to the latest version before the service ends in October 2023.

The American technology giant has a habit of automatically releasing the latest versions of its operating system, ensuring continuous maintenance of devices that reach the end of support by providing them with the latest software updates, security updates and improvements.

Last January, Microsoft began rolling out a mandatory update period for the 2022 version of Windows 11, which will then be rolled out broadly via Windows System Update to users with update-eligible devices.

It should be noted that Microsoft began last month offering the 2023 version of the operating system (Windows 11) with more than 150 new features, including: the intelligent assistant (Copilot), and a new version of the drawing program powered by artificial intelligence. .
