Google Maps is getting new functionality thanks to artificial intelligence

Today, Thursday, Google announced new functions for its mapping service (Google Maps), in addition to expanding existing functions.

In a blog post, the US tech giant said that artificial intelligence could improve the functionality of electric vehicle charging stations provided by its mapping service and provide more specific recommendations for nearby activities.

Many of the new features use so-called neural radiation fields, a branch of artificial intelligence that allows 3D scenes to be created from 2D images.

Google Maps is also offering new ways for users to search for nearby events. The company warns that some users who want to attend nearby events have a habit of typing sentences like “things I do” on certain locations. District, the service now offers them more personalized support with information to help them participate in these activities.

Instead of receiving a random list of nearby activities, the mapping service provides a list of activities organized by theme.

The company is improving electric vehicle charging station capabilities and now notifies drivers when a charging station has been recently used to reduce the risk of driving to an unavailable charging station.

In particular, this function also informs the driver how fast the charger is and whether his car is compatible.

Google Maps is also expanding the Lenses feature in Maps to include 50 more cities. The feature, formerly known as Live View Search, allows people to use their phone's camera to scan nearby buildings, allowing the camera to analyze billions of cities. Pictures and tell them... Save names, ratings and other information related to the things they see.

Google said that the service will provide better navigation options and that the integrated display system, Immersive View, which the company announced last May, will be expanded to include new cities such as Los Angeles, New York, and San Francisco. The system allows users to take a virtual trip along a planned route.

The company added that in the coming months, twelve countries will have access to improved images of buildings and corridors so drivers can see them on the road.

In the United States, users will soon be able to check whether their trips take place on highways with designated lanes for vehicles carrying large numbers of passengers.
