I'm a technology enthusiast and I don't think I've ever described setting up a computer and/or electronic device as "confusing." It's the first. The documentation that came with the device isn't entirely clear, but it works well once you familiarize yourself with it.
The documentation (and information on the product page) states that in order to use it, you must first pair the device and then activate the included data plan. Pretty standard stuff - to do this you need to "scan the QR code on the device or box". However, there is no QR code on the device or packaging. Eventually, I found out that you have to scan the screen (using the big button on the front) and you'll eventually see a QR code that says "Purchase Service". This is the code you scan. I think it's technically the device, but you have to know where to look.
Once you find the code, setup is as easy as activating the included data plan. 4G data speeds in the US are ridiculously slow, but the device performed well despite this limitation. I've tried using the onboard data and the physical SIM card and they both work great. I haven't had a chance to try it globally yet, but the device is great. Decent wifi at a reasonable price. sincerely!
