UMIDIGI A13 (16+128GB), Android 13 10.5 inch FHD Gaming Tablet with 7500mAh Super Big Battery, 8MP+13MP Camera Tablet, Support 1TB Expandable Tablet
Let me first say that I have always been a fan of Umidigi and have used many of their phones over the years. I like the idea of having a mobile device with features good enough for the average user and only 1-1.5 years of software support (at least as long as phones continue to use lithium batteries, which are starting to show signs of improvement). . ). It gets worse after only a few years). Okay, now that you've made it this far, I want to talk about what you get, some of the features, and what I like and don't like about this product.
Delivery includes tablet, charger, USB Type-C cable and manual. The tablet comes with a screen protector and case. The casing is made of clear hard plastic and fits well over the device. The screen protector is just a thin layer, but it protects your screen from scratches. Keep in mind that Umidigi products do not have many third-party accessories, especially at the beginning of the device release. So, if you purchase this tablet, make sure you store it safely. Its magnetic cover closes the screen when the case is fully "closed," but it has two annoying problems: (1) If you simply "throw" it at the screen, it almost never "closes" and forces the user to close it and fiddle with it. a little. (2) If you fold the cover over the back of the device (for example, if you want to use it on your lap), the device will also turn off. Hopefully a software update will fix this issue.
Now there is a serious problem with the charger that came with it. The device is supposed to charge quickly, but even though the screen says the device is charging fast, it's not charging at all. The charger did not work, which was very disappointing. However, to Umidigi's credit, they sent a replacement charger within 4 days. Although there is no fast charging function, this charger works well. Surprisingly, I couldn't find anyone online who had a similar experience.
The initial setup was quick and smooth, and ultimately turned out to be a completely mediocre experience. Unlike previous Umidigi devices that featured Umidigi's own suite of apps, this tablet only has the basic set of Google apps and a simple Quickstep launcher. excellent. Well done, Omidge!
The display is a 10.5-inch IPS display with a resolution of 1920 x 1200 pixels (215 ppi). It doesn't have the crazy contrast ratio and deep blacks of an OLED screen. However, it offers the vibrant colors and wide viewing angles of a typical IPS display, and for the price ($180 after coupon), I have no complaints. The screen area is huge, the picture is sharp, and everything shows.
The build quality is very good and the slim design is well thought out. There are two speakers on each short side of the tablet, which is ideal for watching videos with the device on the folded magnetic case. The speakers are loud at full volume, but still deliver clear, crisp sound. Additionally, there is a microphone on each long side of the tablet, ensuring that the user's voice is picked up regardless of the device's orientation. I was particularly surprised by the presence of a 3.5mm headphone jack on the Umidigi. I wish more companies would bring this back.
One strange omission in the A13 Tablet's design is the fingerprint reader. However, the combined functionality of Smart Lock and Face Lock makes up for this. The latter works surprisingly well, although it sometimes fails. One problem with Face Lock is that users must first press the power button to turn on the screen, a process that requires both hands. Adding a “double tap to wake” gesture somewhere in the settings would solve this problem (although this can also be done using a third-party app, so it's not a big deal). Maybe they will include it in a future update.
While I'm talking about Face Lock, I might as well be talking about the camera. Umidigi has really taken some shortcuts here. The specifications (13MP rear camera and 8MP front camera) are nothing special and photo and video quality is good at best. However, I would add that AI post-processing is a saving grace here. Since I'm not a photography enthusiast, I don't mind at all what to expect at this price range. The camera app has all the usual features: capture, video, time-lapse, panorama, AI beautification, and more. I have attached some pictures for demonstration purposes.
Now let's talk about the Unisoc T616 octa-core processor which is the heart of this beast. I did not specify any criteria because there are many other reviewers. If you are interested, you can check out their reviews. I will only give my honest impressions of the actual performance. The CPU (two ARM Cortex A75 cores up to 2.0 GHz and six ARM Cortex A55 cores up to 1.8 GHz) and GPU (ARM Mali-G52 MP1 up to 750 MHz) provide inexpensive performance, but can be combined with memory 8GB RAM gets the job done. Everyday tasks like media usage, document editing, and web browsing were no problem, as execution was quick and smooth. As for games, I tried out some of my favorites: CSR 2, League of Legends, and Dota 2, and they performed well. Now I'm also trying to play Diablo: Immoral, although I have to turn the graphics down a bit to get acceptable performance. Your travel costs may change.
I highly recommend plugging the tablet into a power outlet when playing such intense games, as this will drain the battery very quickly. However, the large 7500 mAh battery lasts a long time. You can expect more than a day of standby or light use (calls, texting, listening to music). Any combination of watching YouTube videos, browsing the web for a long time, or playing games will completely drain the battery after about 2 to 4 hours. Additionally, you can reduce battery consumption with features like backlight power saving mode, screen timeout, and auto contrast. Finally, the 18W fast charger is designed to help reduce downtime by quickly charging the battery. However, I cannot prove this because my charger was faulty and the replacement charger did not have fast charging capability.
I would remind potential buyers to check the global bands on the device's data sheet to ensure compatibility with their carrier. I can confirm that the tablet runs on Mint Mobile's 4G LTE network in the US and also supports Wi-Fi calling. So it also works fine on the T-Mobile network and should work with AT&T.
Overall, this is an affordable laptop that can save you a lot of money. I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a budget tablet with decent performance.
