Review KTC M27P20 Pro 4K UHD 160Hz IPS Mini LED Gaming Monitor

KTC 27" IPS 4K UHD Mini LED Gaming Monitor, 160Hz/144Hz, 1ms, HDR1000, 576 Zones, Eye Protection, Advanced Ergonomics, HDMI2.1 and DP1.4 Speakers M27P20P

When I was looking for a new monitor, I spent about a month comparing different brands. I created spreadsheets, notes, comparison tables, and looked at hundreds of teacher evaluations.

The most annoying situations for me are:

-The monitor must have KVM (I'm tired of switching keys to use the same mouse/keyboard on different devices).

This limited my options greatly!

The requirements are as follows:

- Must be true HDR (for $1400+, I expect it to be much better than the VG27A I'm using)

Other items on my wish list:

-Brightness is not less than 600

-J sink

- High refresh rate (144 minutes)

- Can run a connected laptop (huge bonus)

- Ability to use mouse, keyboard and webcam on two devices (a dream?)

- Mini-LED (many displays for sale use OLED technology, but have text and engraving issues that eliminate them all)

So...my thoughts (since I haven't seen much information about this monitor online/in no particular order):

-Request: Very dissatisfied with the shipping. It still hasn't shipped almost 2 weeks after I ordered it...why! ? !

- Tracking: Totally inaccurate and unnecessary... From China to the Yukon, the southern states, the east coast of Canada and then about a week to get to my house on the west coast.. . Why? Interestingly, when he was in my city he said there were still three days until delivery. Fortunately that wasn't true...it arrived before the three days were up...but it required a signature and I didn't know it would be issued on the same day. Fortunately I was there.

- Shipping packaging: It was a bit disappointing as it was a smaller screen box that was split into a much larger box (with no padding), but there was no damage and the screen arrived in one piece.

- Packaging: Very good, the box looks great and when you open it everything is neat and tidy. You get a stand, base, monitor, and box of cables (everything except USB...it's a KVM, can't we include one?), all the cables look high quality and everything is covered in algae. There are almost no instructions (some incomplete pieces of paper and instructions that don't provide any real information about screens, menus, etc.).

- Screen: Exquisite appearance, beautiful colors, thin bezels, easy to install.

- Making it work: First, these stones are not as big as they say, but there may be some problems (we will talk about that later). The logo flashes on the screen, not very slowly (I've heard it's very slow), and then the desktop appears. Right away, I noticed vivid colors, no dead pixels, and no weird glitches (as some reviewers mentioned). There is no screen curvature at the edges etc.

- Connect it all: Super easy setup... one cable (yes... one cable) from laptop to monitor and one USB cable from computer to monitor. A DP cable connects the computer to the monitor. Plug in your speakers, connect your keyboard and mouse dongle... done!

- Settings: HDR not enabled (set to Auto), 60Hz refresh rate (set to 160 - awesome!), G-Sync not enabled (compatibility?). KVM is not activated (set to automatic mode).

One thing I noticed after enabling HDR is that the colors became very dull. This may be normal, but it's a bit frustrating.

- Joystick: The only control is on the back of the screen (very confusing at first). Each direction of the stick displays a different submenu. You need to press the joystick to bring up the menu that appears in every YouTube video (full menu). However, instead of pressing to select an entry, press the right arrow key. Turning the screen off and on again is quite an adventure... as you have to hold down the button/joystick until it turns off, then hold it down to turn it back on (which is probably why people say, "It's walking slowly"). ") Lighting). I wish there was a second button for quickly switching between devices (there isn't).

Damage:

- Even though the firmware on the screen says 3.0.2 and the firmware on the website says 3.0.2, what is installed on the screen and what is eventually flashed are not the same thing. The site already has firmware 3.0.2A (3.0.2 for short), which allows you to enable local dimming (as you wish).

- Firmware flashing is worrying. It's not difficult, but it doesn't take long to figure out what it's doing and then it's gone. At some point, the light on the screen flashes red (quickly) and my screen doubles in width (so even if there is a message, I don't see it). I was about to turn it off but then decided to wait (thank God I did). Once it's done I don't see any messages anymore, all I see is a normal screen and a blue light with a red light. It took a few minutes.

Let's go back to the basic building blocks of energy:

-The cable length from the socket to the brick is appropriate. The cable from the screen to the brick is very short. I had to put bricks on the table because they couldn't reach the floor.

I tried using the camera on one of the two USB ports (Logitech Brio). This seems to work... and continues to work even after switching to my other device. But when I open it again, the camera does not respond (it does not appear on the device at all). I turned the screen off thinking that would bring it back to life (which it didn't). I unplugged it (pain in the butt) and it started working again. Conclusion: The webcam does not work reliably.

Additional comments. I've heard people say that when they use HDR on a desktop, whites turn yellow, parts of the screen become dark while other parts become brighter, etc. I do not believe that. The office is excellent.

The illuminated panel on the back is not as dark as people say you can easily see the lights in a dark room and it would be nice to be able to control the lights better or add a ring of LEDs behind it for a gaming/movie atmosphere. Maybe I'll turn it off.

Switching from one device to another is a good thing. It wasn't quick, but it wasn't painful either.

I'd like to see native KTC software that allows the screen to be controlled from a window (or even just a keyboard shortcut to toggle the SRC input?). Yes, I know there is a program for this, but the manufacturer has to make the effort.

I am happy?

It's a beautiful screen. I'm not sure it's worth the price ($1400+). I'm not even sure it's worth the $1000 retail price...but for what I need, it pretty much covers all the bases and then some.

I want it to be plugged in and explode. Instead, everything continues as usual (more conveniently).

renewal:

- When I opened this screen for the first time it was burning as if heat was dripping from the top. It has been running for a while and is already cold and no heat is coming out.

-When I turn on my laptop, the power adapter makes a high-pitched squeaking sound. He couldn't hear it anymore.

-I'm not very happy with HDR. I calibrated the profile professionally, set the local dimming to auto, tried a few other settings and now got a nice photo. Colors still aren't great, but like I said, that's probably because the screen is sharper and less saturated. First of all, the images are not bright and the colors are dull. Colors are now vibrant and clear, and the brightness is sometimes blinding (especially when the game switches from a completely black screen to a pure white screen). I don't know if there is something wrong with my screen. It is useful to calibrate it. Wait...but the picture is much better than the original.

-You will never be able to solve your webcam problem. The monitor seems to only support Ko/Mouse for KVM.

- New problem and solution: the sound keeps crashing. Convert from DP to HDMI and the problem disappears.

- Using HDMI with a DP cable also allows me to access the BIOS (I can't use a DP cable, I don't know why)

- New unsolved issue: When you recently turned on your device, a “Keyboard not found” message appeared. The device works fine and the keyboard works when I turn it on, but that shouldn't happen.

I've also noticed that when using a laptop with a KVM/USB-C cable, the keyboard keys often appear twice (which is frustrating). If you switch to Bluetooth, this problem will go away, but what good is KVM?
