My initial setup with this smart plug was not good. During initial setup via Bluetooth, the Smart Plug appears as a HEPA air purifier. However, when I tried it the next day, it worked. I didn't do anything else. According to the instructions included with the device, the manufacturer appears to be aware of this anomaly.
After learning about the smart components in the application, my daughters (Alexa and Google) were able to recognize and control it.
I've been using it for a while and it works like any other WiFi smart plug, except this one has a USB port that's always on when the smart plug is plugged in, even if the device itself is turned off. You can also turn the Plus off manually by pressing the button below the word “GreenSun,” but the USB port will remain on.
In terms of size, it is slightly larger than the Samsung SmartThings Plug. In case you're wondering, I tried and couldn't find it through SmartThings Hub. Their VeSync app tries to be similar to SmartThings, which allows you to add lights and plugs, schedule routines, set timers, and more. I don't use their app, but it's nice to know there's a backup when I'm away.
Overall, I had a good experience with it. These plugs are ideal for rice cookers, lamps, box fans, and other devices that still use mechanical switches (analog technology in a digital world). The four stars are due to my initial experience setting it up and the need to improve the device/app.
