MSI has started releasing a new update to fix the Blue Screen of Death issue on Windows 10 or 11 computers.
This issue is especially common on computers with MSI motherboards running Intel 600 and 700 processors. Users also reported the issue on devices with third-party motherboards.
This issue causes the operating system to crash with the Blue Screen of Death (also known as BSOD) and the message “UNSUPPORTED_PROCESSOR” indicating an incompatible processor.
MSI confirmed that the problem has been discovered and resolved, noting that “the root cause of the problem is the software responsible for Intel Hybrid Architecture technology.”
The blue screen of death is said to only affect computers with 13th generation Intel Core i9 processors. If you are installing the latest updates for Windows 10 and 11, you can avoid the issue by downloading and installing a new update released by MSI that targets it. It is the basic input and output system, or "BIOS" for short.
The update currently targets motherboards with Intel 600 and 700 processors, but will be rolled out to additional models in the coming weeks.
Microsoft had accused computer component manufacturers of noticing the problem initially, and indicated that the problem was related to the hardware of the devices themselves and not to the updates that were released for the Windows operating system.
