Microsoft is developing a new version of its upcoming operating system, Windows 12, which will be similar to Google Chrome and will primarily run web applications.

According to what the WindowsLatest website reported, citing sources close to Microsoft and its partners, the company is planning to launch a special version of the Windows 12 operating system that relies on cloud applications to keep pace with Google’s “Chrome OS.”

Sources confirm that the web version will not replace the traditional Windows desktop experience.

Microsoft wanted to create a modern, lightweight version of Windows that would run on low-power hardware commonly used in education.

The web version will be one of the next versions of Microsoft's Windows 12 operating system. Microsoft confirmed in an internal memo that it is forming a specialized team to develop “Windows Web Experience” and is actively working to recruit people to develop “Windows Web Experience.” This team.

Microsoft Edge browser and AI tools are expected to be at the heart of the next version of Windows for the web.

It's worth noting that the company's Edge browser itself runs on Google's open source Chromium project, which provides the core source code for Edge and other web browsers.

The American company previously tried to develop improved and lighter versions of the Windows operating system such as Windows 10X, but it ultimately failed to reach users as commercial products.

Microsoft is expected to launch Windows 12 in 2024.
