LG plans to transform itself into a media and entertainment platform

LG unveiled its new vision at the 2023 webOS Partner Summit as the Samsung rival brand aims to become a media and entertainment platform company.

To achieve this goal, the company will invest $753 million in its webOS business over the next five years.

According to LG, this transformation enriches customers' lives by providing valuable services and a unique array of curated content on products such as LG OLED TVs and LG QNED TVs.

As part of the new strategy, the company plans to expand the webOS platform to include additional product categories. In the next three years, the brand expects the total number of devices running webOS to reach 300 million.

This means that the number of devices running webOS has increased by 100 million from the current 200 million.

Ji pointed out that the $753 million investment will provide more content and services that meet consumers' different lifestyles and preferences.

LG believes it can improve the webOS user experience by making content and services more competitive.

The investment aims to expand the content offering on the webOS platform, improve the user experience through innovations in the user interface and user experience, and strengthen partnerships with production companies. Content from all over the world.

LG is also committed to driving innovation in AI-based search and recommendations and plans to integrate voice UI features into partner companies' apps as part of this effort.

According to the brand, this feature allows users to easily control and navigate third-party content apps using their voice on the webOS platform, enabling quick and easy content searches.

To achieve this goal, LG is collaborating with academic institutions in South Korea to train the next generation of software talent and recruit software professionals from around the world.

The company said its goal is to provide a personalized experience that meets each customer's preferences and lifestyle and to create products that everyone can use.

Judging by the details published by LG, it appears that the company is focused on improving and expanding the webOS platform, focusing only on OLED and QNED TVs to achieve a breakthrough in media and entertainment companies.

Therefore, LG may not focus as much on other products, including home appliances, a move that could benefit Samsung as the company can capture a larger share of the consumer electronics market.
