As part of the Wonderlust event, Apple unveiled its new flagship smartwatch Apple Watch Ultra 2, which replaces the model the company launched a year ago.
The new model carries over the interior design and improvements of the Apple Watch Series 9, but its design is very similar to the first-generation Apple Watch Ultra, which means the biggest improvements are on the inside.
Like the new ninth-generation smartwatch, Apple Watch Series 9, Apple Watch Ultra 2 is powered by the S9 SiP processor, which has 5.6 billion transistors and a quad-core neural engine that performs neural tasks twice as fast.
Compared to the S8 SiP used in the original Apple Watch Ultra, the S9 SiP has 60% more transistors and is 30% faster.
This enables new advanced features, including on-device Siri processing and more accurate location tracking.
In addition, the watch has a second-generation Ultra Wide Range chip that makes it easier to find iPhone with Apple Watch Ultra 2 and also supports precise searches.
Visually, the watch features an improved display compared to the previous generation Apple Watch Ultra with a brightness of up to 3,000 nits, a 50% increase in brightness compared to the first generation Apple Watch.
Apple notes that the Apple Watch Ultra 2 has the brightest display of any smartwatch and that the Apple Watch Ultra 2's battery life is up to 36 hours with regular use and up to 72 hours with low consumption.
Rotate the Digital Crown to temporarily double the brightness and better illuminate the road ahead. The company's watch case is made of 95% recycled titanium.
Although the watch's internal hardware has been updated, users will see some of the biggest changes this year in watchOS 10, which brings watch widgets, redesigned app icons, new maps, and cycling features.
The new watch face, called Modular Ultra, uses the outer edges of the large display to provide real-time data such as seconds, height, or depth.
Modular Ultra provides more information than any other Apple digital face and can be customized for sports, outdoor adventures, marine and water activities.
Apple Watch Ultra 2 is designed to withstand the harshest conditions, from exploring the deepest valleys 500 meters below sea level to climbing the world's highest peak at 9,000 metres.
Apple Watch Ultra is ideal for water sports, including extreme activities like windsurfing, as well as recreational diving up to 40 meters and freediving with the updated Oceanic+ app.
The built-in Depth app now logs each session, allowing users to view a complete history of all dives from their most recent session via Apple Watch Ultra 2 or via the GPS entry point in the iPhone Fitness app.
When freediving, users see important data such as depth and elapsed time and receive target depth warnings in large, bold, easy-to-read text.
Heart rate zones help users monitor and reduce their heart rate between dives, and preset alerts (such as surface time and workout time) guide users through each session.
The new double tap feature makes it easier for users to start and end calls. Night mode turns on automatically in the dark thanks to the ambient light sensor.
The watch is available to order now for $799 and will ship to users on September 22. Apple Watch Ultra 2 measures 49mm and is carbon neutral when paired with a carbon neutral Trail Loop or Alpine Loop band that contains more than 30% recycled materials.
In addition to the launch of Apple Watch Ultra 2, Apple also announced Apple Watch SE, which continues to deliver the Apple smartwatch experience at an affordable price and gives users a useful way to start their Watch journey. Smart watch at an affordable price. $249.
Apple Watch SE offers activity tracking, high and low heart rate notifications, fall detection, emergency SOS, collision detection, and watchOS 10.
Apple introduces FineWoven technology, a sustainable cotton fabric made from 68% post-consumer recycled materials, which has a much lower carbon footprint than leather.
The FineWoven shoe has a suede-like feel and features a magnetic closure and a modern buckle strap. Apple said it will no longer use leather in its new products, including watch bands.
