Apple has added new features to the Maps app in the new iOS 17. While the changes to the Maps app aren't as significant as some of the changes and additions introduced in previous versions of iOS 17, they are useful and will greatly improve your Apple Maps experience.
Here are the major new features for Apple Maps in iOS 17:
1- The ability to use the card without connecting to the Internet:
In iOS 17, you can download maps for offline use, which is useful when mobile data or WiFi isn't available in an area. You can save a map of a specific area to your phone and access it at any time, even without an Internet connection.
When a specific map is saved, all location information is available on the map, eg. B. Opening hours and ratings. It is also possible to view directions. The Maps app works the same way it did before when saving. You have an internet connection except for traffic information that is updated in real time.
You can search for any location in the Maps app and then select the download option. This will bring up a drag and drop interface where you can choose the size of the map you want to download.
With Apple, you can download maps of entire cities and their surrounding areas. Each downloaded map is displayed in a size that depends on the area you selected and its content. A map for a small area might only be around 200MB, but for a larger area with many roads and businesses, it might be 3GB or more.
2- Warning of interruption of communication service:
If you're looking for a route that takes you through an area that typically doesn't have cellular coverage, the Maps app in iOS 17 recommends downloading maps for offline use.
3- Electric vehicle charging station:
Apple Maps in iOS 17 shows the availability of charging stations along the route in real time — a useful feature for electric vehicle owners.
4- Update the new interface:
If you enable turn-by-turn directions, the Maps app in iOS 17 displays clickable icons for driving, walking, transit, and other options instead of drop-down menus. Some other options are still located in the same dropdown menus as in iOS 16.
5- The ability to adjust the volume:
In the user interface that displays Help, you can click the (^) button to access a new volume option that allows you to adjust the volume of the Help you hear. Options include Quiet, Normal, and Loudest.
