Ways to improve iPhone sound quality

iPhone delivers high-quality sound, whether through wired or wireless speakers or headphones. However, in some cases, you may experience poor sound quality from your iPhone, which may be due to headphones, settings, or speakers.

If you are experiencing sound issues when making calls, listening to music, or watching videos, you can try the following to improve the sound quality of your iPhone:

1- Enable high-quality streaming in the music streaming app:

In many cases, music streaming apps automatically set the audio quality to Low or Normal to reduce data usage when not using WiFi. However, depending on the application, higher quality streaming may be enabled to improve the sound.

Example: To increase the sound quality of the Spotify app on your iPhone, you can open the app and go to (Settings), then select (Sound Quality) and select the Very Loud option.

The process for enabling HD streaming in third-party music streaming apps is basically the same. You can also enable higher quality streams for the iPhone's built-in Apple Music app by going to Music and Cellular Streaming and choosing High Quality in the Settings app.

2- Check the cleanliness of the housing:

Small dirt or dust accumulated in the speaker holes can negatively affect the sound quality of your iPhone. If you find something stuck in the speaker holes of your phone, you can safely clean it by following these steps:

  1. Turn off the iPhone and use a soft brush to clean the speaker grille.
  2. Blow air into the speaker grille with a soft hair dryer.
  3. Gently wipe the speaker grille with a soft cotton cloth slightly dampened with isopropyl alcohol.
  4. Use a cotton toothpick to remove any remaining dirt.

When cleaning, care must be taken to ensure that no liquid gets into the holes. So, make sure that the cloth you use is not too wet.

3- Activate the "Compatibility with hearing aids" option:

If you are having sound problems with your iPhone when using headphones, you can try turning on hearing aid compatibility, which is an accessibility feature for the hearing impaired.

To do this and see if the sound quality on your iPhone improves, go to (Settings), then select (Accessibility), then (Hearing Aids) and turn on the (Hearing Aid Compatibility) option.

4- Set custom spatial audio function:

If you have AirPods (3rd generation), AirPods Pro, AirPods Max, Beats Fit Pro, or Beats Studio Pro, you can try setting up Custom Spatial Audio to improve sound quality.

To enable custom spatial audio, follow the steps below:

  1. Go to the Settings app and select Bluetooth.
  2. Tap the (i) icon next to the name of the AirPods connected to your phone.
  3. Select Customize spatial audio and follow the onscreen instructions to set the feature options to your liking.

The setup process for custom spatial audio involves three steps and uses your iPhone's front-facing camera. You will first be asked to look directly into the camera and move your head from different angles. Next, move the iPhone forward from either side of your head in a circular motion.

This setting can contribute to an immersive listening experience and is likely to greatly improve the sound quality of your speakers.
