The Dutch smartphone company has launched its latest sustainably produced and repairable phone, the Fairphone 5. The company made the new phone using 70% recycled and ethically sourced materials, made by workers who earn a living, and is designed so that it can be easily repaired in the workplace. The software support period is very long.
“You can send us your old phone in a Fairphone box so we can recycle it for you,” the company says. The Fairphone 5 comes with a 5-year warranty and software support that lasts until at least 2031, making it long-lasting.
You will get Android 13 and the company plans to ship at least five updates to the operating system. The phone is easy to repair, all you need is a screwdriver and there are ten modules that you can replace yourself without having to go to a repair shop. Fairphone and its partners sell these units.
The units include a new OLED display, rear and front cameras, USB ports and a battery. The OLED screen has a size of 6.46 inches, a resolution of 1224 x 2700 pixels, a refresh rate of 90 Hz, a maximum brightness of 880 nits, and is covered with a layer of fifth-generation Gorilla Glass.
The company provided the phone with a 50-megapixel front camera, with an F/2.45 aperture, HDR support, a 90-degree field of view, electronic image stabilization, and 1.5x digital zoom, capable of recording 4K video clips. Frame rate is 30 fps.
The device has two rear cameras. The 50MP main lens supports optical electronic image stabilization, has an 84.1-degree field of view and 8x digital zoom. The 50MP ultra-wide-angle lens supports autofocus and macro. mode, electronic image stabilization, a 117-degree field of view and the ability to… It can record 1080p videos at 30 and 60 fps, and is also capable of recording 4K videos at 30 fps. second.
