I got this tablet not long ago, and these are my first impressions.
I found the 9-inch Lenovo M9 to be on par with the budget Android tablets I've used over the past few years. With its 5:3 aspect ratio, the M9 Tablet fits perfectly in my hand and is very comfortable to use.
Frame - made of metal with barely noticeable edges. Overall it is very modern looking.
Screen - With a resolution of 1340 x 800 and a brightness of 368 lux, the M9's screen is relatively bright, but when you take it outside, it's a bit dim. Inside, the tablet boasts very good contrast and strong, vibrant colours.
Performance - With the MediaTek Helios G80, I had no problems opening many applications and switching between pages was generally very smooth. Internet browsing is also generally good, however the 4 year old SoC (System on a Chip) has its limitations, especially when it comes to gaming (some games are not playable at all). The same applies to the use of memory intensive applications such as video or audio editing.
Speakers - The sound quality is surprisingly good for such a cheap tablet. The stereo speakers are good but have almost no bass, but then again, most people will probably use 3.5mm headphones (or Bluetooth) and high-end (more powerful) headphones or earphones for their music.
Camera - The M9 has a 2MP front camera and an 8MP rear camera. To be honest, these cameras are only good for quick shots and video conferencing, as photos taken with this tablet tend to look washed out and low-light photos look grainy. The same is true for recording videos, which generally perform well in good lighting but don't handle low light.
Battery – This tablet has a 5100mAh battery, which is enough to watch movies for about 5 hours on medium brightness (and when connected to WiFi). However, the playback time is significantly reduced to around 3.5 hours when watching a movie at maximum brightness. However, it can be fully charged in about 3 hours using a 10W charger.
The Lenovo Tab M9 is an affordable high-end tablet with a modern look (I really like the metal body) and a good middle ground between a large tablet and a smaller one that doesn't usually offer many features. I just wish it had LTE so my kids could watch shows in the car and keep themselves busy.
