Apple added a number of new features to its iOS 17 operating system, including: NameDrop, a feature that allows iPhone and Apple Watch users to share contacts with others in seconds.
You can use NameDrop to digitally share your contact information with new people you meet by holding your iPhone or Apple Watch close together. It is easy to use and allows both parties to decide what information they want to share with each other as it allows the exchange of numbers, email addresses and sticky contacts.
Here are more details about the NameDrop function and how to use it:
1- Requirements for the NameDrop function:
NameDrop uses the same technology as AirDrop, with an emphasis on contact exchange. To use it, you need an iPhone XR or a newer iPhone with iOS 17. You can also use this feature on your Apple Watch with watchOS 10, and both devices must be connected. Connect to the Internet using Wi-Fi or mobile data and set up Make sure Bluetooth and AirDrop are turned on.
2- How to use the NameDrop function:
Before you can use the NameDrop feature, AirDrop must be enabled on your phone. To do this, follow these steps:
- Go to the Settings app and select General.
- Click on the AirDrop option and change the setting to (10 minutes per person).
After enabling AirDrop and making sure both phones are connected to the Internet and Bluetooth is active, follow these steps:
- Hold both iPhones close enough so that the top edges touch.
- Animation of the glow effect is displayed in the upper half of both screens.
- Wait for the business card to appear on both devices.
- You can choose to share it or just receive it.
- If you want to receive other people's contact information but don't want to share your private information, tap Receive Only.
- You will receive the other party's contact information, including email address, phone number, contact sign and other information.
- If you choose to share, you can choose the phone number, email address, and other information you want to share with the other party.
- After receiving the contact information, tap Done to save the contact to your phone.
You can follow the same steps when using the NameDrop feature on your Apple Watch. However, if you are trying to share information with someone whose information you previously stored on your phone, you will not be able to obtain their information through this feature. This prevents multiple entries by the same person.
3-NameDrop Limits:
There are some limitations with the NameDrop feature, including: contact information cannot be shared with Android users and different contact cards cannot be created to share. For example, you can share a personal business card with a few people and another with a branded business card.
