I have several of these portable monitors and this is the best monitor for mobile gaming. I use it with Nintendo Switch and Steam Deck and the high refresh rate and low latency make for a very smooth experience. Like many other portable monitors these days, you can connect your Switch or Steam Deck to a single USB-C cable for video output (included). No docking station or drivers required, just plug and play. In fact, in my opinion, this monitor offers a better experience than the official Valve dock and my TV. If you're using your Steam console's power adapter to power your monitor, you can even keep your Steam console (or Switch) powered on while you're playing.
As for the screen, the resolution, brightness, and colors are just as amazing, especially for the price. It's brighter than anything I've had before, and it's bright enough that I can comfortably use it in a sunny room near an open window. All my other monitors run at 60Hz, which I think is fine for smooth gaming on my laptop system. However, even when running AAA games at 30-60Hz, the difference in smoothness and responsiveness with this monitor's 144Hz refresh rate is day and night. You'd think a 60Hz monitor would run games at 60fps as well as a monitor with a higher refresh rate, but that's not the case for me. All of the 60Hz portable monitors I tried showed significant motion blur; Enough to make me nauseous on a regular basis. So if you're also looking for a portable monitor for gaming, I definitely recommend making sure it has at least a 120Hz refresh rate, even if you think you don't need it. .
I should also mention that the stand that comes with this monitor is very useful, which isn't always the case with these portable monitors. Sometimes there are weird bags that have to be made into a stand, or flimsy easel-style panels, but this one has a simple yet sturdy body that folds into a sturdy triangular stand and maintains good viewing angles, a reminder that the thing you love with iPad is in business.
As for the negatives, there are two minor things that are negligible, but I want to be specific. First, a little bit of light seeped into the bottom of the screen. Thin and affordable, I think the screen is expected, but I know that might bother some people. It's only noticeable on dark loading screens and it doesn't bother me at all when gaming. The second small problem is that the texture of the case looks flabby. The textured surface faces the screen and the smooth side out (you can't flip it over because of the way the magnets are attached). Again, this is a very small problem and even with the textured side facing inward, it protects the screen well. I don't have any scratches yet.
Overall, I would highly recommend this monitor especially if you are looking for a portable monitor for your Switch or Steam Surface. It looks amazing, feels silky smooth, and blends in perfectly and I honestly don't think you'll find a better screen at this price point. I couldn't be happier with her.
