HP 15" FHD Laptop Intel Core i3-1215U 8GB RAM 128GB SSD Intel UHD Graphics Windows 11 Home NS Mode 15-dy5599nr (2023)
comprehensive quality:
Fortunately, it's a little stretchy and it's all made of plastic. I don't like the keys either. The full-size keyboard is great, but I don't think it's suitable for a 15-inch laptop. You will need to enlarge and spread the keys slightly, as they get cramped when typing. The screen is beautifully clear, with minimal anti-reflective coating. I don't like the power button, it's too small and hard to press and has no active feedback. The speed is actually very good. I thought the i3 would be slow for me, but it's fast enough. I'm not going to edit it or watch videos on it, but it's more than adequate for office work. I can even run Minecraft on it. Even with the sensitivity down, the touchpad is a bit too sensitive.
Improves:
I'd like to check what is required to upgrade an NVME SSD and storage. Removing the stand is troublesome. Place the six screws under the rubber feet so that only two screws are exposed. And my feet are not small. These are two 10" pads that are hard to reach without damaging the adhesive. Once you've removed all the screws, you'll need to pry them open from under the top section, which is another tricky task. But the good news is that you can upgrade your NVME SSD and RAM when you're done. In OEM condition it has 1 x 8GB 3200MHz SODIMM so the laptop will not work in dual channel. There I replaced the SSD with a 256GB one. So why not? I don't think there is a need for a RAM upgrade due to the I3, so the laptop is fully upgradeable.
Now that you know it's upgradable, you can reinstall Windows 11. I've done this on several machines. This laptop is a pain... eg the touchpad requires HP drivers which are not included in the Win 11 installer. So if you boot from USB you won't have the touchpad. You can solve this problem by using an external mouse. So the solution is simple, or you can go to the HP website and download the driver and insert it into the USB installer. Anyway, it's an extra and unnecessary step. MS can intercept them and add them at the end. After I figured out the mouse problem, everything was fine. With Windows finally updated, the touchpad drivers were installed and everything was back to normal. Just wanted to let you know if you are buying this laptop and considering an SSD upgrade.
finally:
All in all, not a bad laptop. It's light, fast, and has a good 1080p screen. I'm amazed at how fast I can drive on my own with the i3. Personally I think it's still a bit pricey, at $399 I think it is. I use this laptop and never miss a thing. Oh, and the battery life isn't bad either. I also noticed that it is easy to swap the battery by closing the trunk. At least it looks easy. 4 screws, 1 dowel.
