Gawfolk 27" 144Hz/165Hz Full HD 1080p Home Office Computer Monitor 1ms GTG with FreeSync Low Motion Blur 99% sRGB VESA Adjustable Slanted Eye Protection
The Gawfolk 27-inch Flat UHD Monitor exceeded my expectations. I rarely think that manufacturers and the like create fuss out of their own financial interest. As a professional photographer, this monitor works 18-20 hours a day - 7 days a week. No, we don't stop on vacation, we come to your home!
Once this monitor is connected to the system and color calibrated (more on that below), we can all tell the difference. Our lead photographer on location uses 120Hz as a middle ground. Awesome! For the first time in a long time, high-resolution screens are available that are free of flicker and streaks.
In July we will add a second system to the main editing system. Landscape (Horizontal), Portrait (Vertical), This allows us to edit images in any style without having to play games to position the images correctly. Having two also allows us to edit videos more efficiently.
Setting it up, I found a surprise: There was a TRS (stereo) jack next to the power input jack. Very well and sounded great on home theater speakers (in our music desk). Two issues didn't stop us from adding a second monitor to our list.
First, the controls are hard to reach and just as frustrating as the buttons. You are behind the screen. So if you want to see what's happening on the screen, you'll have to adjust from the front and reach the bottom of the screen to blindly press the buttons.
There is another issue that affects all display manufacturers, no matter what they tell the public. This is the green gun, and green has been around since the days of television. I set green to 15, blue to 100 and red to 83 just to calibrate it to get a crisp, sharp, clean and true image (which will print to match the color of the screen). I use Spyder Pro to calibrate all of the screens and ignore any claims that calibration is no longer necessary.
I still hope that one day, long before they start working with really smart developers, they'll fix this unassuming green beast. I will not hold my breath. As mentioned earlier, Gawfolk's second 27-inch flat panel UHD monitor was ordered in July. There may be more to come.
