Incoming calls from unknown numbers is one of the annoying problems that users face in WhatsApp. These calls have often been scams involving unknown international calls in recent months.
Some hackers also use in-app voice calls to hijack accounts. 2019; A group of hackers exploited WhatsApp voice calls to remotely install spyware on users' phones, regardless of whether they are using Android or iOS.
There's also no way to monitor calls you receive via WhatsApp because your phone's built-in call blocking technology for unknown callers can't monitor calls coming through the app, making it easier for scammers and telemarketers to get to you.
So, last week, WhatsApp started rolling out a new feature called Silence Unknown Callers, which automatically blocks spam calls, scam calls, and calls from unknown people to increase your protection and give you more privacy.
This feature does not allow incoming calls from unknown people to ring, but it appears in your call history so you can take action if the call is from someone important.
How to block fraudulent and anonymous calls in WhatsApp automatically:
- Access the WhatsApp application on your phone.
- Click on the three dots icon in the upper right corner and then click on the “Settings” option.
- Click Privacy Options.
- Click on the (Call) option.
- Tap the toggle next to it to turn Mute Unknown Callers on.
Notably, over the past month, Meta has improved WhatsApp's artificial intelligence and machine learning systems to reduce incidents of harassing calls, and the company expects updates to reduce those calls by at least 50%.
