Unlike traditional rival iOS, Android offers a high level of customization. It also includes many great features and if you know the main useful features of this system, you can improve your phone experience and simplify many tasks. So, below we provide details of some of the features that you can access on any Android phone, regardless of the brand. :
1- The ability to change default applications:
All commercial companies that make smartphones add some of their default applications to the phone, but sometimes you may find that these applications either do not work for you or do not give you a great experience, for example: Samsung smartphones come with Samsung introduced a news application. However, by default, some users may find that Google Messages works better for them. On the other hand, Google Chrome beats Samsung's default internet browser on Samsung phones.
This allows you to use your favorite browser, SMS, and messaging apps instead of the ones your phone factory adds by default. And Android allows you to easily change default apps so you can use the ones you want.
To change the default apps on your Android phone, follow the steps below:
- Go to Settings and select Apps.
- Click on the default apps option and select the one you want.
2- The ability to change the language of the application:
Android has always allowed users to change the phone's display language to their local language. And with the Android 13 update, users can change the language of each app individually. This means that you can keep the entire phone interface in English, but you can change the language of some applications to Arabic.
To change the language for a specific app, do the following:
- Go to the Settings app and select System.
- Select (Language and Input), then (Application Language).
The App Languages option appears only if you have added multiple languages to your device. On the other hand, the application whose language you want to change must support this feature. Therefore, some apps may not support your local language.
3- Adjust quick settings:
Your Android device's quick settings page is the best place to quickly access useful settings like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, sleep mode, and more.
With Android, you can customize the quick settings page if you need to. To do this, scroll down twice to the Quick Settings page, then click the Edit button and make the required changes.
4- Enable the notification history feature:
Android has a built-in feature called Notification History which keeps a history of all the notifications you receive. This feature was added with the Android 11 update. So if you have a phone of this version or higher, you can use it to keep track of all the notifications you receive.
To enable the notification history feature on your phone, follow these steps:

6- Protect photos with a password:
Sometimes we take private photos that we don't want to share with others. The best way to protect these photos is to put them in a password-protected folder. If you are using the Google Photos app, you can use this feature by going to (Library) and then to (Utilities). Then you can create a locked folder (Locked Folder) to keep your photos private.
You can also use the Secure Folder feature available on Samsung Galaxy phones to create a locked folder to store your photos and files. You can find this feature in the Biometrics & Security section of the Settings app.
