A hidden feature in the Pixel 7 Pro that improves video quality. Here's how to use it

The Google Pixel 7 Pro has a camera with impressive specifications for capturing high-quality photos and videos. However, you can greatly improve the video quality using a built-in feature called (10-bit color).

What is this feature and how do you use it?

What are the benefits of 10-bit color?

Bit color means color depth, this is the basic number of colors that the camera can represent in photos and videos, as most mobile phone cameras can only provide a color depth of 8 bits, which means that for each primary color, that is, for red, There are green and blue, the camera can render 256 levels, and the final result is 16.7 million levels.

But at a color depth of 10 bits, the camera can capture 1,024 colors of each primary color, or 1,024 red, 1,024 blue, and 1,024 green, or 1.07 billion colors.

If you compare 16.7 million to 1.07 billion, you will see that the difference is significant, which means that photos and videos captured with a 10-bit color depth are sharper and of higher quality.

Google added 10-bit color to the Pixel 7 Pro camera and it also works on some other Android phones like the OnePlus 10T where you can enable it on this phone to take sharper photos and higher quality video footage. But the Pixel 7 Pro also has this function for photos and videos.

To enable 10-bit color for video on the Pixel 7 Pro:

To enable video on your Pixel 7 Pro, make sure that you update your operating system to the latest version available, then follow the steps below:

  1. Open the Camera app and tap on the word (Video) shown below to switch to video recording mode.
  2. Click the down arrow in the top left corner to access the video settings.
  3. In the settings menu, tap the HDR button next to the (10-bit HDR) option to enable the 10-bit color feature.

After that, you can start recording high-quality videos with greatly improved colors. Note, however, that videos recorded with the 10-bit color feature are much larger than those recorded with the 8-bit color setting enabled. For this reason, it is best to use the default 8-bit color and switch to 10-bit color when you are photographing something special.
