The main plugins for annotating and highlighting text in web pages

Highlighting specific snippets of text on web pages and taking notes can help you be more productive when searching online. This makes it easy to access important information on a web page each time you visit the same page. There are a number of plugins that you can use to highlight text and take notes on any web page. Some allow you to share a page with colleagues at work or study, highlighting notes and text to highlight important parts to focus on and allowing them to add notes and annotations.

In this article, we are going to mention 5 of the most important plugins for taking notes and highlighting text on web pages:

1- plugin WebStickies:

(WebStickies) Allows you to take notes on a webpage, whether it contains articles, images, or games, or in YouTube videos. After adding a note, you can change its position on the page, add to it, or delete it.

This plugin only allows you to write notes in text form and cannot contain images or hyperlinks. Any notes you add using WebStickies are only visible to you. So if you send a link to a webpage to a specific person, they won't see your note.

You can download WebStickies extension in Chrome or Firefox.

2- plugin Scriffer:

When you share a Google Doc, you can highlight a word or phrase and write a comment explaining the difference. This is exactly what the Scriffer add-on allows you to do. You can use it to highlight a word or phrase on any webpage, write a comment on it and share it with anyone, whether they use the plugin or not.

When the page is shared, comments and highlighted texts appear to anyone who has the link. However, comments do not appear by default, but instead appear when readers click on a highlighted phrase or word. They see when the comment has been added and can respond by typing specific text and adding emojis. Anyone you share the page with can also highlight additional text and add new comments, but in this case they must have the Scriffer plugin installed in their browser.

You can download the Scriffer extension in Chrome or Safari.

3- plugin Glasp:

You can highlight a specific webpage, any text in a PDF document, or a YouTube video you're watching in your browser. When you click the Glasp icon, a window will open on the right side of the web page, displaying all the phrases highlighted on the page as individual cards, and you can add notes or comments to each card. You can also copy and paste all comments, notes, and highlighted text into the Notes app, or download your notes as TXT, CSV, or MD files.

You can download the Glasp extension in Chrome or Safari.

4- plugin Weava:

The Weava add-on includes features to help you collaborate with classmates or colleagues, and it even has a built-in search tool for easy access to notes you've added to web pages.

Weava allows you to highlight any text on a webpage with one of the colors provided by the extension, and you can add notes to highlighted phrases and save them to different folders.

The free version lets you highlight text and add unlimited notes, but you can create a limited number of folders so you can easily organize and access your notes at any time. You can easily search and view all your saved items without leaving the extension's control panel. If you choose to save your notes to your computer, you can download them as Word, Excel, TXT, or CSV files.

You can download Weava Chrome extension for free.

5- plugin Marker.Ink:

The plugin (Marker.Ink) provides two different modes for marking text on a web page and adding comments and annotations: (pen mode) and mouse mode (mouse mode). In pen mode, you can write and draw shapes anywhere on the page. You can set the cursor size and adjust the line thickness. Any shapes and text you add with the pen are automatically saved, and you can also erase them at any time with the eraser tool.

You can easily switch to mouse mode with a hotkey and highlight specific text with one of the colors provided by the extension.

You can download the Marker.Ink add-on for Firefox only.
