Google Assistant offers a feature called Routines to make all aspects of your life easier. When the feature is turned on, you can check the weather, list daily tasks in your calendar, manage your smart home devices, and more with simple voice commands without holding your phone.
To use Google Assistant routines:
To start using the routine, all you need is your phone and the app (Google Home) with which you can control all the routines as you can add new routines or edit or delete previous routines. You can also learn how to perform each routine.
If this is your first time using Routines, Google Assistant comes with default routines that you can enable or customize to suit your needs, as shown below:
1- Bedtime:
When you turn on the bedtime schedule, your phone is silent and you can set the alarm with your voice. To activate, say: (time for bed) or (good night).
2- Good morning routine:
This routine will keep you updated on the weather, your calendar tasks for the day, and any reminders you've set. You can trigger it by saying hello or (tell me about my day).
3- Start the daily work:
A navigation routine tells you the weather and your calendar tasks for the day and is very similar to a good morning routine, so it's best to customize it or use it or a good morning routine, not both. You can activate it by saying: (at work).
4- Daily life away from home:
You can trigger a departure routine by saying, "I'm leaving," and your lights and other smart home devices will adjust according to their settings.
5- Home Routine:
When you activate your commute routine and say (let's go home), the voice assistant may take the following actions depending on the settings you've made in the Google Home app:
- Send a text message to a specific contact.
- Read unread messages.
- Tell everyone in the house you're on your way home with the Google Nest speaker.
- Control lights and other smart devices in your home.
- Listen to music, news, radio, podcasts or audiobooks.
How to activate the routine
To activate a previous action, do the following:
- Open the Google Home app and tap on the Routine option.
- A list of default actions will appear and clicking on one will take you to the Actions page where you can activate it and learn the voice commands to trigger it.
- On the same page you can change the voice commands associated with the routine, change the default actions, or add others.
