What is (picture-in-picture) mode?
Picture-in-Picture, a mode that lets you watch a video in a small window while using other apps, is one of the most important multitasking features in an Android phone.
Although the picture-in-picture mode is primarily for streaming video, you can also use it to follow directions on the Google Maps app, make video calls, and perform other similar tasks.
How to enable and use picture-in-picture mode on your Android phone
Before using picture-in-picture mode, you must make sure that the feature is enabled by following these steps:
- Go to the Settings app and select Apps.
- Click the three-dot menu button and select (Special Access).
- Click on the Picture in Picture option and a list of all the apps that support this feature will appear.
- Make sure that picture-in-picture mode is enabled in all the apps that appear in the list.
The above steps are for Samsung phones. If you have other Android phones, you can follow the steps below to enable picture-in-picture mode:
- Go to Settings, then select Apps & notifications.
- Click on the “Advanced” option, then select “Access to special apps” and enable the “Picture-in-Picture” option.
Or go to (Settings) Settings, then to (Applications), then select (Special App Access) and enable the (Picture in Picture) option.

If you live outside the US, you need a YouTube Premium subscription to use picture-in-picture mode. If you have subscribed to the service and still cannot use it, open the YouTube application and click on your profile picture, then go to (settings), then select (general) and turn on the (picture-in-picture) option.
